ABC Open Work SHop

Today Luke Wong, Producer for ABC Open at Orange, held a work shop on DSLR aperture skills.   He held a session at the Bathurst Library where he went over the finer points of our cameras.

Most DSLR cameras feature a built in adjustable diopter correction system. This means it's not necessary to attach a lens to the camera to adjust the diopter setting. Simply look at the focus indicators through the viewfinder and at the same time turn the diopter adjustment knob, the correct setting is found when the focus indicators appear to be in focus and sharpest.

It means for those of us who need to wear glasses we can take them off as the camera compensates for us!  How clever is that!  Explains why my images were blurred when taking pictures with my glasses on!

We then went over the finer points of Aperture and Depth of Field before releasing us into the wilds of Keppel Street Bathurst.

Our brief was:

Depth of field using, the lowest aperture setting to the highest aperture setting and to see the difference in the depth of field.  We also had to play with out white balance.  White balance is a setting in the camera for the various conditions we encounter when taking photos.  For example

Flourescent
Tungsten
Kelvin
Cloudy
Shade
Full sun

Here are the photos I took.

I now have a better understanding of how depth of field works as it is all in how close you are standing, what you are focusing on, your ISO setting and the light.

Podcast - Server Down

Created a podcast called Server Down for class assessment.  My wonderful friends from World of Warcraft from all over the world gathered together to help me create this podcast.  In the end I had over 3 hours worth of editing.  I managed to get it down to 11 minutes and 32 seconds.

Final Teddy Bears Picnic Poster

I wasn't fully happy with the previous version.  The dot font although cute wasn't really readable.  I also forgot to add that the Teddy Bears Picnic will be in 3D and needed to add a shadow to a few things to give you that 3D feel.  Here is the final result:

Re-read the assessment task and the poster has to be A3 not A4.  So here is the A3 version:

Teddy Bears Picnic Poster

The last challenge for Illustrator is to create a poster for our film work done back in Certificate III or our Blender project and since I already have a Toyminator poster, I decided to create one for my 3D animation which is based on the old lyrics by James B Kennedy.  I had some idea of what I wanted to do but limited on what I could create not having the use of a pen and tablet at home.  So took advantage of using Illustrator to its fullest to create the image.

So let me know what you think?

DVD Cover and DVD Stick On

Part of the assessment for Illustrator is too create a DVD cover and the sticker for the DVD.  Here is the final results for my 2012 versions of this assessment task.

After Effects Assessment Task

I thoroughly enjoyed working with After Effects.  Our task for this assessment was to make a movie trailer or an opening sequence for a TV show.  I went with the movie trailer.

The story is of a love between a human and a vampire.  He dies, we see her holding red roses as we ponder what happens as Per L'Eternita does mean For Eternity.

The pictures are of avatars I created in Second Life and I managed to capture the couple dancing in Second Life using Snag It.

Music is by Tristania and the song is called Sirene.

My New Company Logo

It is not easy coming up with a name for a company and then trying to create a logo.

One way is to write down all your favourite activities.  Mine were:

Music
Reading
Gaming
Teddy Bears
Travelling

I took the word travel and then used an online thesaurus to see what other words I could get out of it.  The final name came from:

  • travel
  • exploration
  • pioneer
  • frontiersman
  • frontier
The second part of the name just fell into place with the word "creations".

I then had to research different types of logos and print out the ones that I liked.  From these I could look at how the designed the word Frontier.  Look at Fonts, colour, space, texture, size, value and shape.  All the elements of design.

Once I had chosen the best pencil sketch of the design, I also shared it with my class mates, it was then down to creating the logo in Illustrator.  Many people hate Illustrator and would sooner use Photoshop, but Illustrator is the best manipulator for creating the best logo.  Photoshop lacks a lot of manipulation.

I then printed the final black n white version of the logo and then set out to colourise my logo.  After trial and error here is the final outcome of the logo along with the original black n white version.
