Some more photos from Bathurst Cemetery

This afternoon went back to Bathurst Cemetery and re-take some shots for my assignment as I didn't think the photos would turn out so good.  We need to take RAW images and I just left the setting on JPEG.  Today I set the camera to take both to save me the time of converting the image for uploading.

I have attached some favourites up for consideration in my final assessment task:

Graveyard at Georges Plains

Cemetary at Georges Plains
Drove out to  Georges Plains this morning and took some photos of the graveyard out there.  I plan on doing a quick early morning trip, hopefully on a misty morning and try and capture the graveyard in the mist.  Here are some of the photos I took.

Logo Fun

Version 2
Version 1
Today with Simon we created logo's.  Since I created one using my own name last year I created a company logo.  Here is my version:

Let me know which version you like the best in the comments below.  Oh the spot in version 2 is gone.  I fixed that!

Working with RAW images

This next image was taken using RAW on the camera and it was then taken into Adobe Photoshop Camera RAW for editing.  This was an exercise that Nicole got us to do last term.  Below are before and after.

As I am unable to upload a RAW image I have created a PNG image so you can see the changes.

Documentary Photograpy Task - Instructions

Current assessment Task -
Take a series of photographs (10-12 developed RAW files) that document a topic of choice. Show the development of ideas and research online using your blog. Include in your blog information on the topic, the development of ideas, images of other photographers work, other influences, initial work, developed work and the completed series.
This afternoon after class I drove out to the nearby cemetery and took the following photos.  None are done in RAW I just did JPEG to give an idea of what I my documentary will consist of.

Assessment Task - Produce and Prepare Photo Images

Image One
Part One
Nicole asked us to post up our assessment task we did for her recently.  We had to do a portfolio of technical photos showing exposure, and depth of field.  We also had to scan some photos.

Image Two
My Dream

With the scanned photos we then combined the two in Photoshop to create a new image.  Here the original photos and the final combined image.

Part Two

Take three identical photos.

Overexposed
Correct Exposure

Underexposed
  • First photo had to have correct exposure
  • Second photo had to be underexposed by two F-STOPS (aperture)
  • Third photo had to be overexposed by two F-STOPS (aperture)

Part Three
Slow Shutter Speed

Photograph a moving subject (water, moving figure, etc.) and use a slow shutter speed to record the movement as a blur.

Part Four

Photograph a moving subject (water, moving figure, etc.) and use a fast shutter speed to freeze the subject and capture crisp action.  The frozen subject needs to be in focus, still and sharp.

Part Five - Depth of Field

Narrow Depth of Field
Take two identical photographs of the one subject/object/portrait.  The first shot should have a large depth of field (DOF), where the background is in focus.  The second shot should have a narrow depth of field where the background is out of focus.

Large Depth of Field

Documentary Photography

Today's task is to find documentary photographers who have blogged their work on the Internet.  I am researching Aussie photographers.  The first photographer I have found is:

He is a professional photographer of over 20 years.  He is one of the premiere Australian Landscape Photographers, Christian has just won the AIPP Australian and Western Australian Landscape Photographer of the Year 2011

Below are some examples of his work.

This was taken in Melbourne
Quorn QU9900F

"During World War II, Quorn was a vital service point for trains heading north to Alice Springs and carried over 1,000,000 troops heading to Darwin and on to Papua New Guinea".

This next photographer is:

She began her career by pursuing a degree in Social Work, however, she changed her focus to Photography.
Her ongoing documentation of marginalised communities within prosperous nations has recently won her the Magnum Foundation 2010 Inge Morath award for Female Photographers under 30 years of age.

The next photographer I have chosen for this post is:

Tony Middleton

Tony has a passion for the natural world and photographing it. Based on the spectacular South Gippsland coast where the Strzelecki ranges meet the forces and fury of Bass Strait it is easy to see why. Travelling by 4WD he spends time away each year experiencing and photographing other regions of the country as well as some of the splendours of Victoria.

Here are some examples of his work.

'Autumn in the park'

'Skeleton forest of the clouds'
